Week Two

From Noah to Jesus

This past week we reflected upon the beginning. The first several chapters in the Bible are absolutely foundational to understanding God’s story of redemption. In the beginning there was nothing, then God created life. Creation, creatures, and mankind all made in his image. Adam and Eve sinned, brining a sinful nature upon all people, and we see the effects of sin increasing in the lives of the people God has created.

We see God decides to judge the world with a flood for their sin, but spares one man and his family- Noah. When a massive flood was heading to destroy the earth, Noah followed God’s instructions precisely in building an ark. He obeyed what God commanded him to do. While we will see a picture of God’s judgment against sin in Noah’s story, we see a picture of God’s faithfulness in providing protection for His people from punishment that is deserved. We see a picture of God saying to Noah, “I’m going to make a way for you and your family to be spared my judgment.”

May this story of Noah point us to the ultimate hope that we find in Jesus Christ. For all of us, God has invited us to enter into his Son (even better than an Ark), to find refuge, hope and life in Jesus Christ.
