Day 12

New Covenant

by Wayne Johnson

In the seventh chapter of Genesis we find God establishing a covenant with Abram. From this point on Abram will have one God and God will bless His people. The covenant is exclusive in that it applies to Abram and his descendants, and even more so not all his descendants. His son Isaac and his grandson Jacob are the only ones favored in their generations. This covenant relationship continues through the twelve sons of Jacob and after many generations Jesus is born a Jew in the tribe of Judah. Jesus instituted a new covenant that is not exclusive. It applies to many, even more, it applies to all. He allows all who believe to be saved and desires that none should be lost.

I love birding. There are thousands of species, all shapes, sizes and colors. An ostrich weighs around two hundred pounds and the smallest humming bird no more than a penny. Birds come in all colors.  Their diets are varied, like the kite that only eats apple snails. Some are proud like the peacock and others are never seen because they spend their lives in dense marsh grasses. Birds nest differently. There are the common nests in trees and bushes and those that dig tunnels in the ground, or pack mud on walls of overpasses. Some peck holes in trees where others weave baskets, or make nests using their sticky saliva. Others simply deposit their eggs on the ground. I enjoy watching and learning about every bird I encounter. However, I find I don’t have the same enthusiasm when it comes to meeting people. The differences separate us; we are comfortable within our own “flock”. Some have mansions for a nest others not much more than a hole in the ground. Some are prominent like a peacock others are hardly even noticed as they move through life.

We as Christians know the truth and carry the light that brings hope, peace and salvation to all people regardless of their differences.

Question to Ponder: Who will God put in my path today to share the message of His salvation?

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the New Covenant that covers the Jews, the gentiles, and the nations. Open my heart to appreciate all the people You have created. Give me an attitude of love toward everyone no matter our differences. Help me to share Your New Covenant with the lost. Amen.
