Day 34
The Feet of Jesus
by Kareem Douhne
How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news! (Romans 10:14-15)

Imagine if you were a coach of a team and never did anything to help improve your team. Things like telling them about new drills or providing them with scouting reports for their opponents. As a longtime wide receivers coach on the football field, my wide receivers would think I was a terrible coach if I never did anything to help improve their skills and get them ready for their next match up. We would be under performers and I would be fired from my job.

Romans 10:14-15 talks about us being Disciples of Christ by being the feet of Jesus and impacting others through our actions. We cannot impact others without intentional action on our part to do so. A coach who sits idly by, not taking his commitment seriously, will more than likely lose his team and therefore get fired. A Christian who does the same will lose the opportunity to introduce someone to saving faith through Christ.

In Romans, Paul was talking to a church in Rome that was believed to have come to faith in Christ during Pentecost in Acts 2. The Jews came to that faith because of what they heard and witnessed in Jerusalem as a result of the obedience and actions by the apostles and the movement of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 10:14 states, How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

The message of the gospel would have never spread so rapidly without the power of the Holy Spirit and obedience of the Apostles. Thank the Lord, they were determined to preach the good news and be the feet of Jesus. Without their efforts, we would not have what we all have today. We have to continue to be the feet of Jesus today and make an impact through our actions for the sake of the gospel. We should all reexamine our relationship with Christ and our commitment to sharing the good news with the lost as well as sharing it with our loved ones.

Questions to Ponder/Challenge: I challenge you to not just be a good Christian but to be Disciples of Christ Jesus who shares the message of the good news of salvation through Christ with everyone. Think of someone who needs to hear the good news and think of ways you can help them hear it. Remember, Romans 10:15 states, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!"

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give us a hunger and thirst for Your Word. I pray You would help us be the feet of Christ who speak words that are filled with life. May the Holy Spirit strengthen us to impact others for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
