Week One
From Adam to Jesus
When Jesus appeared to the men on the road to Emmaus, He explained to them that the Old Testament (Moses and all the Prophets) pointed to Him.

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. (Luke 24:27)

The first week of our devotion will be centered on Adam and Eve, their sin, and their call to repentance. Adam was the first man, created in the Garden of Eden in the image of God. Although he was created perfect, his rebellion and sin separated him from God and brought destruction upon all of creation.

Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, and gave His life on the cross for our sins. Just as Adam’s rebellion brought death, Christ’s obedience brought life.

Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned – for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. (Romans 5:12-14)

What Adam could not accomplish, Jesus could.

As you read the devotions for this week, think about the connection between Adam and Jesus. Remember that, like Adam, we have all sinned. Be thankful for the forgiveness that Jesus offers, and begin to pray about someone that needs to hear that message.
